Tanya Bilka is the newest member of the MITIE Steering Committee

The Steering committee received a very strong set of expressions of interest to fill the casual vacancy created following Mike Parker’s resignation from the committee.

These EOIs were considered at our committee meeting on Thursday 14th March 2019 and the committee is pleased to announce that Tanya Bilka has accepted our offer to join us as a committee member.

For the past 3 years, Tanya has been Leader of Learning Technologies at Christian Brothers College Adelaide. Her role oversees pedagogical technologies within the classroom, and has expanded to cover systems support/administration, staff training, data integrity, and advising/participating in the formation of the college’s ICT strategy. She is reviewing the College’s systems infrastructure, keeping it abreast of new digital solutions on the market, and networking with other schools/colleges to share knowledge and experience in this area with the aim of raising the standards of ICT service provision within the College.

At the MITIE term 3 conference in Adelaide in 2018, Tanya gave one of the best presentations of the day on “Selecting an LMS - A Journey in Learning”.

Tanya’s vision for the future of MITIE includes making sure that management and user experience concepts are well covered, as well as attracting a broader range of less-familiar vendors and products, and highlighting local (Australian) companies who provide these services. She would like to see more frequent casual meet-ups (drinks, nibbles, shared meals) that would allow members to speak more often with other professionals; particularly useful occasions if members are isolated in their role. She’d also like to see more obvious grouping/categorising within the forums, to make it easier to contact people with relevant knowledge or similar experience.

The committee thanks the other MITIE members who submitted an EOI. It is out intention to engage with these members and the broader MITIE community to expand on the services we offer. We will do this through the Member Services Standing Committee under the leadership of MITIE’s Vice President, Dave Nichols (@dnichols).
